Is That For Me? A Tommy and Alesha Engagement Story.
Remember when I said this was going to be a promising 2017? I wasn't wrong.
February 5th was like something from a movie - not in a cheesy way, but in the "duh girl, how can you be so oblivious?" way. (But also kind of in the perfectly cheesy and romantic way too).
It was Superbowl Sunday and Tommy and I were planning to watch the game at his Uncle Kevin's in Draper after T. finished helping with a ward activity (that actually wasn't happening). I was debating between two of my long-sleeved BYU shirts and contemplating which pair of leggings I should wear. Thankfully Elise convinced me that family parties deserved a classier version of me ---> this really should've been a flag because Elise is my number one comfy clothes supporter.
About a minute down the road, T. told me a joke - his planned conversation for the ride because he was so nervous:
"How did Harry Potter get down the hill?"
......."He walked."
...................."JK, Rolling."
I thought it was pretty good.
As we continued the drive, I debated the different types of tents and the merits of each. He mumbled something about his sister Chelsey wanting to go camping and then he called her - even though we were only minutes away from his uncle's (other flag).
As we drove up the mountain, T. asked if I remembered the last time we were driving up this road. I did because the overlook right next to Kevin's was where he first told me he loved me. He reminisced that it had been an extremely nerve-wracking day and I stated that it had been perfect.
When we pulled up to the house, there were cars everywhere and no room to park. T. suggested we park at the overlook. I continued the trend of oblivion and asked if we would get towed. As we got out, I saw all of the lights and said something genius like, "wow! look at all of those lights!" followed quickly by "wait...is that for me?!?!?" about 20 times.
He led me to the center of the lighted heart and got on one knee to ask me if I'd marry him. I responded absolutely yes.
I've always wondered if I'd be the type of girl who would cover her mouth or jump or cry in this dreamy moment. I found out I'm the type of girl to just grab his face.
I had always imagined my perfect proposal outside in nature, at a place with significance to us. I wanted twinkling lights and a bouquet of flowers that I liked (carnations/daisies) not red roses.
T. nailed it. He exceeded every hope or expectation my little girl heart had. I was completely surprised and am still completely thrilled. It was the perfect proposal.
But overall, I would've said yes in any situation as long as Tommy was the one asking.
As Always,
Alesha
ps. sorry if that was too sappy.
