Vulnerability.

Applying for the position you've been dreaming about. Talking to new people. Thanking a teacher. Reaching out to a TA for help. Dropping the white hankie for a cute boy.  Presenting a new idea. Wearing something different than normal. Telling someone your favorite things. Acknowledging that you failed. Apologizing. Dancing with no inhibitions.

This is what it means to be vulnerable. 

This is what it means to be a college student. 

This is what Taylor Swift meant when she said,"it's going to be forever or it's going to go down in flames."

Without risking the flames you'll never know the joy of forever. Vulnerability is often the key to overwhelming happiness.

So, here's to taking risks and being vulnerable. It almost always stinks, but on occasion the rewards are big enough to counterbalance the agony. Sometimes the risks we take don't work. Sometimes they do. I guess I'll just have to tell you when it's over if the high was worth the pain.

P.P.S. I made BYU's Service Council this week. Vulnerability pays off kids (but I think I'll take a break from being vulnerable for a bit. Because wow, scary).
