Had they an album, this would be the cover.
If you had asked a younger version of myself what I thought my college job would be, I'm positive locksmith wouldn't have come to mind. I might have listed off titles such as librarian, secretary, florist, teaching assistant and maybe even dog walker. Yet here I am, working at BYU's Access Services shop and loving every second. I like the skills I'm developing in the office (hit me up if you need me to pick a lock - but only if it's legal). I like driving the GEM cart, cutting keys and pinning cylinders. I like the dimension this job brings into my life and the character it weaves into my total person. But mostly, I like the people I work with.
There is never a dull moment in the shop. Whilst pulling our own weight and accomplishing above and beyond our supervisor's expectations, we have a lot of fun. Rotating treat assignments for Tuesdays' devotional? Check. A spotify playlist dedicated to Fridays? Got it. Inside jokes & merciless prank wars? You betcha. It's hard to choose my favorite part about working with these kids. Perhaps its the random conversations we land on such as dating advice, "food confessions," and "if we started a band, what would our name be and what type of songs would we sing."
With that, I'm pleased to announce that BYU Access Service's very own TC AND THE KEYS will be dropping their first album, Family Reunion Fridays, spring term 2016. Full of creative spins on old favorites, FRF is sure to please anyone with a basic understanding of the anatomy of a lock (ie: knows what a 'shim' is). Bursting with personality and classic fun, TC AND THE KEYS bring life to the office and on the road.
In summary: sometimes the things you least expect are the best things to happen to you. While I would never visualize myself in the awesome navy key shirt, I am happy to be here.
As always,
Alesha
