Enter to Learn How To Serve.

Many know BYU's motto, "Enter to Learn and Go Forth to Serve." YServe does it a little differently. We think that instead of waiting until you're prosperous, successful and graduated (#goals) to serve others, your total BYU experience should encompass service as a method to develop character - helping your learn how to develop charity and love like Christ does. We propose that learning to serve well = serving to learn better.

Without a doubt, YServe is one of my favorite things I've been involved in at BYU. I believe wholeheartedly in its mission, "to provide every student with a meaningful service opportunity.....seek(ing) to instill in the heart and mind a desire to give lifelong service." I am a firm believer that everyone should have a spot where they feel entirely safe and happy. To me, and the 30,000 other YServe volunteers, this is just the organization for that. When I enter the YServe office, I feel like I'm getting a hug. Which sounds strange, but it is so loving there. In fact, some of my best friends were made within those walls.

Working with this team has been a dream and a beautiful learning experience. It has directed and improved my life as we've partnered with multiple NGO's and Non-Profit Organizations to share our talents and blessings with those around the world. We serve to share God's love with His children and we have a blast doing it.

Guys. I was terrified to enter the office the first time. I passed by a hundred times before I had the courage to enter and I regret not doing that sooner. It takes time, but as you give of yourself you'll find that your capacity to complete all that you need to is multiplied. So visit the office. Find which of the 70 (!) programs best fits you. Turn outward and I promise you will be so grateful you did.

End shameless promotion.

As Always,
Alesha
